Update 12/7 for Lincoln, 2:35 p.m.

A cleaning contractor is currently onsite at Lincoln Elementary School. After reviewing the situation, the clean-up should take no longer than a few hours. While the amount of mercury was below the level necessary to notify the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the EPA is onsite to ensure that the building is safe for students to return.

The Brown County Health Department has also been at Lincoln and based on the extremely low levels of mercury detected, has stated that it is unlikely that the exposure that did occur would cause harm or health effects to the children or staff. However, if families have concerns, they are encouraged to contact their medical provider directly. Letter from Health Department. Information on Health Effects of Mercury Exposure
